Making a water bottle
At 'Urban Farm Girl' in Lexington Virginia I demonstrated how to make my "Billbird" water bottles.
On my potter's wheel I throw several parts to assemble into a bottle.
A wheel thrown base
From this I will carve bird feet and legs and the lower body.
A dart is cut into the round base
This will be the bird's tail.
Overlapping clay is cut away.
Another cylinder becomes the bird's neck
And two slabs are added for wings. I have started to carve the feathers and feet.
The head is made from a third cylinder.
with a beak (spout) added from a slab of clay
Tilt the head to give him a little attitude.
Carving and assembly is complete
and the bird is ready for drying.
On another bird I am carving away clay to reveal legs and feet.
This chicken is made of three wheel thrown parts which form the bottom and top of the body and the head. The beak and tail are made from clay slabs.
Add wings and eyes and carve the feathers
